The Lake Como EDITION
Conie Vallese × Beau Lake
Lake Como Design Festival · 2026
Where sculpture meets the water.
For Lake Como Design Festival 2026, The Lake Como EDITION presented a commission by Argentinian artist and designer Conie Vallese and Beau Lake: a limited-edition series of handcrafted paddleboards conceived specifically for the lake.
Presented from 12–20 September, the collaboration brought Vallese’s botanical forms together with Beau Lake’s nautical design, material integrity and performance. The result is a functional design object shaped by art, craftsmanship and its setting.

The collaboration
The artist’s hand. A new surface.
Working from her studio, Vallese created individual floral and organic sculptural elements for the nose and tail of the boards. The forms were then forged in white bronze outside Toronto, preserving the traces and irregularities of her hand.
Set against Beau Lake’s precisely constructed surfaces, these botanical details connect sculpture with watercraft, bringing an expressive new dimension to an object made for movement.
Form, shaped by hand.

Made in Canada
Considered in every layer.
Each 3.5-metre all-around paddleboard is handcrafted by Beau Lake in Canada, with a recycled EPS foam core encased in fiberglass and a bespoke layup of FSC-certified mahogany and holly wood veneer.
A restrained silver-champagne palette frames the timber. Layers of ultra-glossy, UV-resistant clear coat give the surface its depth and reflective finish, balancing sculptural expression with durability and performance.

The artist
Conie Vallese
Born in Buenos Aires, Conie Vallese works across art, design, fashion and craft. Her practice explores botanical and organic forms through sculpture and collectible design, with an attention to hand-worked materials.
For Lake Como, that visual language finds a new context: a watercraft that brings delicacy, permanence and function into the same object.

In dialogue with the lake.
At The Lake Como EDITION, the commission forms part of a programme supporting contemporary art, design and culture through original collaborations. The lake’s traditions of craftsmanship, architecture and leisure provide a natural setting.
Presented during the festival’s eighth edition, themed Confine (“Boundary”), the series explores the meeting points between art and function, hand-making and engineering, land and water.
